10 Ways to Achieve a Balanced Life

Nature requires balance. The most high-tech aircraft or space vehicle demands balance. A performer on a high-wire lives or dies by balance. Our physical bodies beg for balance.

Being overly absorbed with work makes us lopsided and weakens our spirit. The average person, on his or her deathbed, will not say, “I wish I had spent more time at the computer or shuffling paper.”

So the question is: Where are you in the balance department?

Are you too busy at the office to spend time with your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your friends or doing what you love? If you are a workaholic, or pushing hard for this certificate of demerit, here are some innovative ways to help you to begin closing the gap.

Here are ten ways to help you enjoy more balance in your life, starting today:

1. Schedule It

Balance is not something that happens after work and on weekends. It must become routine.

2. Delegate

You lose many hours because you do not delegate effectively on the job. What are you doing that an assistant could do?

3. Pray and Meditate

Don't look down; look up. Pursue spiritual harmony and peace.

4. Date Your Spouse

A leader I coached told me that he recently dated his wife for the first time in twenty-one years, and it rejuvenated their relationship.

5. Hang Out With Your Kids

Don't just “be there”. Spend quality time with them.

6. Walk On The Beach

Or any other beautiful place. Take time to be tranquil.

7. Work Out

Exercise enhances your physical and emotional health. Do it at least three days a week.

8. Take A Vacation Or A Day Off

Sharpen the saw. You must be sharp to lead.

9. Get A Massage

Relax to recharge. Every month, get a good massage to release the stress and toxins that have built up in your body.

10. Read A Good Book

Put your brain in neutral on occasion.
